Wow, so I am really not very good at writing on this thing! I thought that I would be better at this than a journal, but I am not off to a very good start. I guess I just don't think that my life is so interesting that people would want to read about it. But, this weekend, Bryan and I got a little more adventurous than our usual weekend. We went Camping, and it was quite the experience. We went with our good friends Brian and Heide. Bryan and Brian decided that they don't like campgrounds, so we drove up Payson canyon, all the way to the top, so we were at about 8200 feet. Then we drove off the road, and through some bushes to a clearing in the middle of the forest, and that is where they declared that we would be camping. Of course there were no toilets or anything like that....much to my dismay, but I handled it. Then, in the middle of the night Bryan wakes us all up saying that about 15 minutes previous, he had heard something in our "campground" that sounded very much like a bear. He said that he heard it breathing very loudly and sniffing around outside of our tent, then he heard it walk through the rest of our campsite. So, of course I was completely freaked out for the next 30 minutes, until Brian and Bryan decided to be brave and walk around outside and look at the tracks around our tent. Then, we moved our tent closer to Brian and Heide's tent, and I was finally able to fall back asleep. Then, in the morning we all went mountain biking. First Bryan and Brian dropped Heide and I off on a trail and told us to go right at the fork, and of course we went right at the wrong fork, and went about two miles off into who knows where until we finally came to the conclusion that we should turn around because we were surely going the wrong way. So, we turned around and went back uphill, in the hot sun at 8000 feet elevation. Needless to say...we got our workout that day. (And this was all after running 17 miles the day before) We then proceeded to ride our bikes down the road to the right trail, where I got to learn how to mountain bike for real, which turned out to be pretty fun! I only fell once! So, now I have been camping for REAL, none of the campground stuff with running water and toilets-that would be just way to civilized for us! But I did learn a few things:
1. Camping with bears brings you closer to God, I don't think I have every prayed that hard :)
2. Going to the bathroom in the wilderness is not as bad as it sounds
3. My husband (who is from San Diego) is actually a mountain man
4. Mountain biking is fun! (Even when you fall) And a very good workout!
So there you have it. If you are ever in need of a camping adventure you know who to call!
